Mechanical transmission

Capacity of the engine is transferred by means of coupling to an entrance shaft of a transmission. On this entrance or a power shaft there are 6 gear wheels (including backing transfer) which are constantly connected to six corresponding gear wheels on a so-called target shaft. These gear wheels can rotate freely until at inclusion of certain transfer there will be no coupling of one of gear wheels to a corresponding opposite gear wheel on a power shaft. The parity of number of a teeth of each pair gear wheels gives a corresponding step of transfer. In ours Audi – as well as in all cars – there are completely synchronised forward transfers. Transfer of a backing to avoid a gnash at inclusion of this transfer is in addition synchronised also.

Gear wheels on приводном and the day off shaft lean against "needles" (штифтовидные rollers). Thus, there is no rigid connection between shaft and gear wheels. Gear wheels as already was told, remain always linked.

At transfer switching connection between a gear wheel and shaft, instead of between gear wheels is created. To synchronise frequency of rotation of a shaft and a gear wheel, one detail of a shaft slides concerning one detail of other shaft by means of frictional elements.

Thanks to a friction the shaft rotating faster, затормаживается until at synchronous rotation cannot be created the connection providing transfer of a power stream. As for synchronisation of number of turns fractions of a second are required, it is not necessary to "tear" with force the gear change lever, especially at the cold engine and still dense oil in a transmission.

The problems connected with a gear change

If transfers are switched hardly or after long parking switching has a heavy course more often the malfunction source is in coupling, instead of in a transmission (see has undressed the Help at malfunctions in the head Coupling). The adjustment of a gear change described more low serves to result the gear change lever in correct position and thanks to it to correct switching courses.

Adjustment of the mechanism of a gear change

On this model of the car in a cut the gear change mechanism is well visible:

1 and 3 – fixing nuts of the case of the spherical mechanism of a gear change (2);
4 – a rigid core of operation;
5 – a gear change rod.


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Unscrew the handle of the lever of a gear change.
  2. Remove cuffs of the lever of a gear change, for this purpose take out from clips the bottom framework of a cuff.
  3. Put the gear change lever in neutral position.
  4. Installation in a longitudinal direction: check up distance "and" = 37 mm if it is necessary, adjust it as follows:
  5. Slightly ослабьте a bolt 2 (drawing below) also shift a payment of the lever of a gear change so that the distance was correct.
  6. Tighten 2 with the moment of an inhaling of 25 Nanometers.
  7. Adjustment in a cross-section direction: ослабьте nuts 3 and 4.
  8. Tighten a nut 3 on 25 Nanometers, a nut 4 – on 10 Nanometers.
  9. Loosen the a bolt 1.
  10. Put the gear change lever vertically with an easy inclination back and establish so that both ledges of a spherical emphasis were on identical distance from the spherical case.
  11. Tighten a bolt 1 on 25 Nanometers.
  12. In the end check up functioning: the gear change lever in neutral position should be in a plane 3/4-й transfers.
  13. By switching check up all transfers. Will pay thus attention to functioning of blocking of a backing.
  14. Exact installation: if installation has not given till now satisfactory results, ослабьте a nut of "3" and 4 cases of the spherical mechanism of a gear change.
  15. Shift the lever to the right against the stop (transfers) and simultaneously wring out the spherical case to the left to the gear change lever.
  16. Keeping the named details in this position, again tighten nuts 3 and 4.

To get access to the adjusting screw of the lever of a gear change, it is necessary to lift a cuff (2). For this purpose take out from grooves of fastening (arrow) of the bottom frame of a cuff. Then remove sound insulation (1). Further are visible:

4 – the spherical case.
