Capacity

Depending on the engine and a complete set we see in Audi A4 generators capacity 70, 90 and 120 And. 70-ampernyj the generator is serially put on cars with four-cylinder engines, 90-ampernyj the generator enters into a serial complete set of cars with six-cylinder engines and 120-ampernyj the generator enters in спецкомплектацию.

To define capacity of the generator, it is necessary to multiply the specified maximum current by rated voltage in 14 V.Naprimer, 90А Х 14 In = 1260 Vt.

You have already noticed: the generator really delivers 14 In at 12 In in an onboard network. Т е. Only at such small distinction in pressure the current can flow to the accumulator that it to charge.

Transfer from a belt pulley коленвала to a belt pulley of the generator so is chosen that on single turns can already be made about 2/3 capacities of the generator.

The reference with the generator and safety measures

The alternating current generator along with the enough high capacity possesses decided advantage: it submits a current already on single turns of the engine. Besides, its graphite brushes maintain the run considerably exceeding 80 000 km. As it is clear under the name, it makes an alternating current which we cannot use in the car as the accumulator can keep, of course, only a direct current. Therefore in the generator three are built in диодных the rectifier which will transform an alternating current to a pulsing direct current. These diodes are sensitive to high pressure and consequently you should consider following moments:

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. At the working engine it is impossible neither to remove, nor to connect any wire between the accumulator and the generator. At the expense of it pressure (pressure peaks) can sharply increase and to "overheat" the diode.
  2. The alternating current generator should not work without correctly connected and serviceable accumulator. The accumulator serves for the generator somewhat as the buffer at pressure peaks.
  3. All connections of wires between the alternating current generator, the accumulator and metal of a body or the block of the engine (weight) should be strong. Even shaking contact can lead to pressure jumps.
  4. At the accelerated gymnastics of the accumulator (it is impossible to use for gymnastics in house conditions) and at welding works on a body both wires not to damage generator diodes should be disconnected from the accumulator.

In models with four-cylinder engines the generator (2) settles down at the left ahead near to the engine and is accessible from above. By figure "1" the top fixing bolt is shown.
